Yacht management & oversight

Protecting your investment. At sea and ashore.

Owning a superyacht is a significant commitment. Without independent oversight, owners are exposed to cost overruns, deferred maintenance, crew mismanagement, and regulatory non-compliance. Yacht Consulting Group provides a discreet, professional layer of protection between the owner and every aspect of vessel operations.

The case for independent oversight.

Most yacht management arrangements place the managing company in a position of financial conflict — they profit from the vendors they recommend, the crew they place, and the work they commission. We operate differently. As independent consultants retained directly by the owner, we have no financial relationship with any shipyard, crew agency, chandler, or service provider. Our only obligation is to you.

01

Technical management

Independent oversight of all technical operations, maintenance, and repair.

Annual technical audits and condition surveys
Maintenance schedule review and approval
Contractor selection and invoice audit
Class and flag state compliance monitoring
Emergency technical response and coordination

We review and approve all maintenance schedules, repair scopes, and technical expenditure on behalf of the owner. Our marine engineers inspect the vessel on a regular basis, audit contractor invoices, and ensure that class and flag state requirements are maintained without unnecessary expenditure. We identify deferred maintenance before it becomes a costly emergency.

02

Crew oversight

Protecting owners from crew-related risk — financial, legal, and reputational.

Crew contract review and compliance
STCW and certification verification
Payroll and expense audit
Independent crew performance review
Crew change management and transition

Crew represent the single largest ongoing operating cost and the greatest source of owner liability. We review crew contracts, verify certifications and STCW compliance, audit payroll and expense claims, and provide an independent channel for crew concerns that bypasses the captain. Where crew changes are required, we manage the transition professionally and discreetly.

03

Financial oversight

Transparent reporting and independent audit of all vessel expenditure.

Monthly operating account review
Expenditure approval above agreed thresholds
Contractor margin and invoice audit
Annual operating budget preparation
Refit and repair cost benchmarking

We review monthly operating accounts, approve expenditure above agreed thresholds, and provide the owner with a clear, independent summary of where their money is going. We frequently identify billing irregularities, inflated contractor margins, and unjustified expense claims that a non-technical owner would have no means to challenge. Our fee is typically recovered many times over in the first year of engagement.

04

Regulatory & flag state compliance

Ensuring the vessel remains fully compliant with class, flag, and port state requirements.

Class survey planning and coordination
Flag state documentation and renewal
MLC 2006 compliance audit
Port state control preparation
P&I and hull insurance liaison

The regulatory environment for superyachts has become increasingly complex. We monitor class renewal surveys, flag state requirements, MLC compliance, and port state control obligations across all operating areas. We coordinate with classification societies, flag state administrators, and P&I clubs to ensure the vessel is never exposed to detention, trading restriction, or insurance invalidation.

05

Owner reporting

Clear, regular reporting that gives owners genuine visibility over their vessel.

Monthly condition and operations report
Financial performance summary
Upcoming survey and compliance calendar
Crew status and certification tracker
Incident and defect log

We provide monthly written reports covering technical condition, crew status, financial performance, and upcoming requirements. Reports are written for the owner, not for the management company — in plain language, without omission. Owners who have previously relied on reports from their management company frequently tell us they had no idea what was actually happening aboard their vessel.

What we protect against

The risks most owners discover too late.

Deferred maintenance

Crew and managers have an incentive to defer maintenance that disrupts the charter programme or requires yard time. Independent oversight catches deferred items before they become structural or mechanical failures.

Inflated contractor costs

Without independent benchmarking, owners routinely pay 20–40% above market rate for routine repairs and services. We audit every significant invoice and challenge margins that cannot be justified.

Crew liability exposure

Non-compliant crew contracts, unpaid MLC entitlements, and undocumented incidents create significant legal exposure for the owner. We identify and resolve these issues before they escalate.

Regulatory non-compliance

A vessel detained by port state control, or trading with a lapsed class certificate, creates immediate financial loss and reputational damage. We maintain a forward-looking compliance calendar for every vessel we oversee.
